I captured this image yesterday evening right after we got out of the young Arizona entrepreneurs awards ceremony. It didn’t take a lot of effort, as the owl didn’t seem bothered by people. But I was pretty excited none-the-less.
Over the past 20 years I’ve taken literally thousands of pictures of birds. As inexplicable as it may sound, to the best of my knowledge this is only the second owl I've ever photographed in the wild.
The first was a barred owl one morning a couple of years ago at a park in Texas.
I was also Very excited that day too! I love owls. I wish I ran into them much more often … especially when I have my camera with a long lens attached.
Neither of those was the first time I’d ever photographed owls.
But these shots were captured during a raptor show at the Tucson Desert Museum. When it comes to owl photographs, I think the “in the wild” matters.
What are some of the birds (or other things) that you inexplicably only have a few pictures of, but feel there should be many more?

While I have heard them over the last 60 years, I've only seen one, myself. And only because fires in the mountains had driven critters down here. He was huge, sitting on the utility lines of my backyard driving the crows crazy. Might have been a great gray.
