Back in 2014, we welcomed Penny into the family. My daughters were tiny, and Penny was a five-or-six-year-old rescue who (as you can clearly tell from this picture) had already raised a few litters of her own.
Turns out, those maternal instincts translated perfectly to raising little human too.
Despite the fierce reputation the breed gets, Penny’s primary job description in our house was “tolerant giant squishy toy.” She let the girls smother her in love, drag her into tea parties, and hold her like a prize trophy.
Penny passed away a little over two years ago. I’ve known a lot of good dogs in my life, but she was easily the best of the bunch.
…and yes, she was a pit bull.
