A few thoughts on navigating the incoming wave of online noise, the trick to actually being heard, and why I’m spending extra time out on the trails lately.
THIS. IS. GREAT! Nothing I could add would be valuable. I 100% agree (though I'm an idiot who does not always practice it). Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I choose the lizards and hiking path.
Thanks James. I'm with you on the not always successful part ... Although I have much easier time just scrolling past and avoiding any temptation here on Substack than I did back when I was on Facebook every day.
I'm not against people having (even strong) opinions, or even about them from time to time (even if I don't agree with them) sharing those opinions.
I just wanted to break it to the people who I may ostensibly agree with, but whose feeds are filled with nothing but political rants: "sorry, I muted you a long time ago." (and I'm probably not the only one).
All true again, and I agree. I tried for years to debate people online, and though some people have been receptive, most are unwilling to look at their biases and use critical thinking to come to an answer.
I wrote a post (unpublished) about how my own mother called me out about a FB post and said she was ashamed of my liberal views -- a woman who lived through Hitler's horrors and came to this country as an immigrant. Even when speaking to her, she would not listen.
My kids always told me to scroll on, but I have that warrior spirit from Bruce Lee, and if people cross the line, I'll give them a roundhouse of words that will knock them out.
I try to stay out of politics here too (mostly do a good job of it). At one point in the 90s, I thought of myself as kind of a “social libertarian”, lol mostly due the influence of George Carlin 😎

I'm here to escape all the nonsense.
I will neither complain about nor cheer any politics here.
Or encourage anyone to.
Or try to sway anyone's opinions.
Unfortunately the only people I align with politically are libertarians and they're all retarded.
